Vịt Say đi Nam MỹThe Duck goes to South America
Một ông bạn sợ quán ế, nên một mình chạy xe nửa vòng Trái Đất, đi tới đâu dán vịt tới đó.A friend worried the bar would go quiet, so he rode alone to the far side of the world, leaving a duck at every stop.

Tên ông ấy là Huy.I have a friend born the same year as me, under the same star sign, raised on the same street, Hàng Đào in the Old Quarter, and, naturally, just as handsome. His name is Huy.
Tôi than hơi nhiều. Huy nghe hết, uống hết, rồi về.One night at the bar, the two of us sat lamenting the world economy and how hard business has been lately. I did most of the lamenting. Huy listened to all of it, drank all of it, and went home.
A few days later, Huy made his announcement: he would ride across South America alone, starting in Argentina. The reason, in his words, was to hunt down a secret grilling recipe for the bar, and to introduce the Duck to travellers from around the world along the way. Worried his friend would go out of business, he went to the other side of the planet.
Mỗi trạm dừng, một con vịtA duck at every stop
Huy packed a stack of Drunken Duck stickers. At every stop he takes the trouble to pull one out, hold it up for a photo, and find somewhere to stick it. The photos arrive back home and we tear up, partly from emotion, partly from envy.

On Ruta 40, the longest road in Argentina, the Km 4000 marker in La Rioja is covered in stickers from riders all over the world. Now, among them, there is a small black duck that says “con vịt say”. Up at the Abra el Acay pass, a wooden sign gives the altitude as 4,895 metres. The wind is cold up there, the air is thin, and there is certainly nobody selling duck.
Sang Bolivia, giữa nền muối trắng, con vịt được giơ lên trước tượng đài Dakar, cạnh chiếc xe lấm lem bùn đất của Huy.At La Poma, Huy stopped to film a video for us, the duck already stuck to the Ruta 40 sign behind him. In Bolivia, out on the white salt, the duck was held up in front of the Dakar monument, next to Huy’s mud-caked bike.

Còn người ở nhàAnd the one at home

Tôi ở nhà, giữ lửa, giữ quán. Mỗi lần điện thoại báo có ảnh mới từ Huy, tôi lại mở ra cho khách quen xem, kể rằng con vịt nhà mình giờ đã đi xa hơn cả chủ.I stay home and keep the fire going. Every time my phone lights up with a new photo from Huy, I show it to the regulars and tell them our duck has now travelled further than its owner.
Please follow Huy’s journey, carrying the hopes of someone like me to the other side of the Earth.
Còn công thức nướng thịt bí truyền? Huy hứa khi về sẽ kể. Bao giờ ông về, chắc chắn lò sẽ đỏ, và sẽ có một chai vang được mở ra.And the secret grilling recipe? Huy has promised to tell when he gets back. Whenever that is, the oven will be glowing, and a bottle will be opened.
